Better late than never

I’ve been slacking with the blog lately. I’d like to think its for good reason though. I’m making strides getting back into shape, I’ve been taping plenty of custom matches, and I even did a pro show the other week. I’ve had my share of shenanigans as well. I got punched in the face on St. Party’s day…by a lesbian. It hurt and the ring left a nice little cut. It was a honest/drunken mistake. She was a classmate of mine in HS, I went over to say hi and wrestling came up. Next thing you know, “I could be a wrestler” is slurred out, and BAM! Right in the face. I’ve been hit harder by tougher though, it’ll take a lot more than that to put the firestorm down.

The pro show was a lot of fun. I filled in for somebody on short notice. I haven’t been on a show in a long time so it was nice to get back in front of a crowd and do my thing. Believe it or not, in most of my pro shows in the baby face (good guy). I was in a triple threat match with two other heels, who wasted no time forging an alliance and double teaming me every opportunity they got. I fought back and picked up with win though, and I felt like it went well enough that I might start doing shows again semi regularly. Im hoping to have the video up soon.

Getting back in shape has been a very frustrating and rewarding experience. I’ve had days where I’ve felt like the man of steel and others where I’m a total failure. The diet aspect is always tough for me. I’ve stuck with it for about 85% of the time. Had a couple nights where I broke down and binge ate snacks late at night or had some drinks after a stressful day. Or eating clean while I travel is tough as well. I don’t mind if I know I’m going over my numbers while I travel, if I know it’s good that at least has nutritional value. It’s when I stupidly woof down a piece of chocolate cake that I feel like an asshole.

The gym has mostly been a success. I forgot how much I enjoyed lifting weights. It really is a high for me. I feel great after a good workout. There’s been a couple days where I’ve been off, or just so tired I wasn’t able to have a killer work out, or even a good one. I those situations I do my best to “get through it”, without dialing it in. Some days the strength just isn’t there for me, so I go lighter and higher reps. Just yesterday I had one of my best days in the gym, I’m lifting weight back up near my normal numbers finally. Felt great to bench a couple sets at 225 again. The squats are around 275 right now, front squats 185. Curling varies wildly for me depending what else I’m doing that day and if I’m using free weights or an EZ bar. Free weights I’m back up around 40/45, the EZ bar 70/80. I’m starting to see some results. I think in another month or so I’m going to look pretty damn good, and will just need to focus on the abs coming in to be back in firestorm shape.

Filming custom matches has been a ton of fun. I’ve had some wild conceps lately and a couple more coming up that I can’t wait to do.  Unfortunately my camera broke and it forced my hand into making a mich needed upgrade. Next I’ll need to upgrade my computer so I can take advantage of all the new features the camera has. I don’t often get much feedback from clients other than, “thanks Jonny, that’s exactly what I wanted”, but here’s something a satisfied customer wrote. This match was filmed with about 15 minutes of advance notice, we nailed it with barely any prep time.

“That was fucking fantastic Jonny.  It was really, really fun.  In fact, it was nearly perfect.  I loved the variety of ways the blows were inflicted and the garish reactions that followed.  Both of you were clearly all in on the theme and it showed. I will definitely order more matches from you in the future!
Good stuff Jonny!  I really appreciate your making this for me.  You boys are great!”

Speaking of custom matches I’m flying down to FL right now to shoot a batch and I think I have some time to squeeze in one or two more matches if people are interested. The line up goes: me, Austin Cooper, Drake Marcos, Ty Alexander, Kelly King, two new hunks who have bodybuilder physiques similar to Austin’s and another cute twinky boy or two. If you’re interested shoot me an email at, customs@jonnyfirestorm.com but act fast, we have very limited time left to film any matches.

Expect another post FL blog filled with fun behind the scenes photos and hopefully stories of more shenanigans!

Till next time Firestormers.

Top dog

I won BG East’s year end award for the “Best Squash of 2014”, I think this is the 3rd year in a row I’ve been involved in the best squash job. My poor opponent was newbie, Nicholas Rush. As soon as the Boss set him in my cross hairs, I was drooling to sink my teeth into him. Just look at the two of us, it was a mismatch from the start.

I don’t recall poor Nicky getting a single offensive maneuver in. I was in a muscle building phase during this match, so I’m a little beefier, but more muscular than I typically am. Despite our appearances, we were the same weight. Nicholas did have a 9 inch height advantage over me though, not that it mattered.

The match has a terrific write up on the BGE website, click here to visit the webpage. Demolition 17 is a fantastic DVD overall. It also features 2014’s top babyface winner, Jake Jenkins. Poor Jake is matched up against the beefy bruiser, Guido Genatto. That match in particular won the “Best ring match and the best submission, of 2014”. Demo 17 has a little something for everybody AND it’s on sale until March 1st! Just to reiterate, best heel, best babyface, best squash, best ring match, and best submission all on one DVD, at a discounted price. It’s a no brainer.

Here’s a fun behind the scenes fact, the visible scratch on my head during this match is a result of an impromptu wrestling match against Jake Jenkins. I forget who else was around but Jake and I both have extensive amateur wrestling experience, Austin Cooper was egging us on a bit and we threw down. It was pretty intense but I was able to get the better of Jake. We all went out into Boston that night and Austin wouldn’t stop teasing Jake about it.

I’m finally back on track as far as dieting and working out go. I’m not sick of eating healthy yet, no cravings and I haven’t had a cheat day…yet. Working out has been a bit discouraging. I know it can take a while to get back to where I was before but it’s very humbling. I’m struggling to put up half the weight I used to and I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. I think with another week under my belt the level of soreness will go down significantly, my body just needs to adjust to lifting weights again. If I keep at it, I’ll have my abs back by April.

I’d also like to give Cameron Matthews a congrats on finally winning best ass. I’m glad your ass is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

Fan Fantasy 2, NYC

First, let me have my fan moment. What an amazing Super Bowl! I was one play away from throwing the nearest object through my TV. I know people are saying the Patriots got lucky, and they did. But Seattle was just as lucky getting the ball all the way down there on that bobble catch. So the two plays kind of cancel out. For all you upset Seattle fans, I have this to say…

BG East just put out a new catalog and I’m starring in one of the products. Fan Fantasy 2 pits me against BGE icon, Christopher Bruce.

This match was very early in my BGE career, not quite a heel, not quite a jobber, just an eager young wrestler looking to make his mark. I was super pumped when Kid Leopard called and said I was going to be wrestling Chris Bruce next. He was one of my idols, somebody I never imagined I’d get to step in the ring with. He was always entertaining to me, always very well built and skilled. He went from being a young fantasyman beefcake in his early releases to a beefy muscle hunk as a veteran grappler. It’s hard to keep your appearance up throughout the years (I’ve found that out the hard way, lol), and I admired that Chris Bruce was consistently a stud every time he stepped in the ring… or on the mat. He takes a lot of flack for always coming up on the losing end of things, but he’s good in the ring. There’s a lot of power behind his attacks. He just happened to be up against other high quality opponents.

Let’s be honest, I suspect that in many of his matches he was set up to fail. When you look the way he does, the Boss will often match you up against the biggest, baddest, dirtiest wrestlers around. With his physique and handsome face, why wouldn’t you want to see him get bashed. That’s what pretty boys are for. Looking back on this match now, I wonder what KL’s motives were. Was he seeing if Chris Bruce could put me in my place, or was he grooming me to become the heel I am today?

I vividly remember this match being around the time my BGE career started to take a turning point. I wen’t from the skinny newcomer and soon after this bulked up to be a muscle pro. Chris Bruce taught me some lessons in the ring during this match that I still use to this day.

On a side note, I’m going to be in NYC again next Friday (2/20). As of right now it’s just a day trip, but I wouldn’t mind extending it into Saturday if need be. Email privates@jonnyfirestorm.com if you’d like to schedule a private match.

All “heeled” up

Thank you for all the positive feedback, well wishes, and advice. I’ve been feeling much better and to steal a line from one of my top fans, I’m all “heeled up”. 2014 didn’t really end the way I wanted it to, I had some neat stuff planned out that will have to wait till next year. 2015 should be a very exciting year for all things Firestorm. Here’s quick shot of some of the things I’m working on now.

I’m starting my diet and workout program again. I put back on most of the weight I lost last year. Which is a little disappointing but I totally fell off the wagon with my diet. On the bright side, I’ll be able to document my progress (I hope it’s progress at least) and you’ll all be along with me each step of the way this time. The first two weeks are always the hardest for me. I’ve been doing pretty well so far this week, minus a couple beers and buffalo wings one night. If I can manage to stick to it this weekend and make it through next week, my abs will be back in no time!

I was on the road in the Big Apple last weekend. It was just a quick day trip to wrestle a good friend of mine. If my schedule allowed me to have more time that day, I would’ve announced it and beat down a couple more of you jobbers. I did pick the worst day of the weekend to go, between the rain and the snow walking around the city was pretty miserable. I did stop in at McGee’s pub, only to be disappointed I didn’t see Barney Stinson at the bar. I’d like to get back soon and have more time to enjoy myself without as much rushing around.

Speaking of rushing, I’m actually a lot faster than I thought. One of those things I hinted that I was working on is done, so drum roll…… Jonny Firestorm vs. Nate Walsh is available as a download in the store. This is one of my private collection matches. Nate wants to join the brotherhood of the Alpha Dom Omega, but he must survive hell week first. As part of his pledging, he needs to step foot in the ring with me. If he can impress me by taking his beating like a good pledge he might stand a chance of joining us, but if he disappoints me, it’s off to the secret room.

I’m headed down to DC/Virginia this weekend, completely decked out in my Patriots gear of course. This will be the first playoff game at Gillette Stadium I’ve missed in the past 3 seasons. Here’s hoping Tom Terrific can get some revenge for the 2012 AFC Championship game. I really think the Pats are the team to beat this year, definitely in the AFC and I like them over Seattle if and when it gets to that point.

It’s also looking like I could be down in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Is anybody else going to be down there? I’d be available for limited private wrestling, I don’t want to make it a work trip but I’m not opposed to doing one or two matches.

I’m signing off for now, I need to catch my flight in the morning.

Jonny out.

From my point of view

Every now and again it would be nice if people saw things from my point of view. I’m not a bad guy, I don’t go out of my way to hunt down and destroy jobbers… Ok. Well, maybe I do. BUT, it’s not out of malice. I can’t help myself, it’s my vice. Some like to gamble, I like love to punish pretty boys. I just happen to be in the fortunate position to indulge my vice.

(Pictured above BG East releases: Jobberpaloozer 12 vs. Jake Jenkins, Hunkbash 10 vs. Braden Charron, Ball Bash 2 vs. Reese Wells, Contract 6 vs. Brad Rochelle)

Like when The Boss dangled Rio Garza in front of me. I don’t dislike Rio, I think he’s a great guy, but look at him! How can you not want to punish those pecs, abuse those abs, twist and torture every last joint on his picture perfect, sculpted body?! I don’t want to say I get lost in the moment, because I’m very aware of what I’m doing, I suppose the closest way to describe it would be to say, I’m totally immersed in my work. The look of pain on the jobbers face, the way his body reacts to each hold or strike, the way his muscles strain as he tries to escape. Those are the only things that matter to me in those moments. Each reaction is a small reward for the work I’m putting in. Most times I could quit half way through the match, and I suppose it would be a satisfactory beating, but I’m compelled to finish. I need to finish. I need him, I need you, I need The Boss, and more importantly, I personally need to know that I put all my effort into creating a masterpiece. The jobber helps bring out the best in me, helps me reach my potential. I’d like to think I bring out the best in him. I’d like to think, I help the world appreciate the jobber more. What better way can the Rio’s, the Jake Jenkins, Austin Cooper’s, and Kip Sorell’s of the world be appreciated, than after they’ve been worked over, put on display and left in a heap of sweaty, destroyed muscle?

(Pictured above BG East releases: Wrestler Spotlight: Rio Garza, Hunkbash 11 vs. Rio Garza)

It’s an experience I don’t feel like many can relate to. It’s exhilarating being able to step into the ring and completely dominate another man, impose your will, and have him be helpless to stop you. So that’s why I put my thinking cap on, and tried to think of a way to share it with you. I could try a lengthy text description, a series of photos, maybe some clips of my favorite moments, but that’s been done before. It wouldn’t do justice to the experience. Then it hit me like a clothesline. Point of View wrestling. Point of View 1: Jonny Firestorm vs. Jake “Lorenzo” Lowe, will put you in the ring with me. Literally. For the first time ever, you will experience a Jonny beat down from my point of view. You’ll see the pain rush across Jake’s face with each gut punch. Only to be replaced by awe and eagerness, as I let him crawl up my quads to muscle worship me. You’ll also get to experience life as a jobber when the perspective switches over to Jake’s point of view. You’ll get lost in the moment seeing me cock back my fist and drive it into your abs, you might even feel the impact when I slam you down to the mat. You’ll be able to hear each breath, feel the ring shake beneath our feet, see the holds from each perspective.

(Pictured above Point of View 1: Jonny vs. Jake “Lorenzo” Lowe)

I’m not sure POV wrestling has a big market. Truth be told, I don’t care. I wanted to try to share a wrestling experience with the world, let you see things from my eyes. Or on the flip side, see how hopeless it is to be on the receiving end of things. I wanted to create, break new ground, and push the envelope. Originality and innovation might be another one of my obsessions. Just like my compulsion to give jobbers the beatings they deserve, the beatings they were put inside the ring to receive. I always want to think of a new way to do things, a new way to create or present the wrestling experience. If it sticks, that’s great, if not, at least I’m failing at creating something new.

I’ll warn you ahead of time, this is the first attempt at this type of match. It’s the very first real POV wrestling match ever.  Some other productions might have brief moments of POV angles. Throughout the whole match the perspective changes multiple times. There will be short periods of time where the camera angle is less than desirable, it’s part of the learning experience and they don’t last that long. During those moments there’s still something exciting about the experience. When it’s not the best viewing angle (which you could argue is more realistic, you don’t always have the best view while wrestling), the experience of either me applying the hold, or Jake suffering in the hold is still pretty cool. Not to mention the verbal humiliation Jake endures as he’s forced to worship me, and accept that he’s going to become my bitch boy after the match. The match is slightly over 40 minutes long, unfortunately the POV camera had it’s battery die before the finish of the match (which occurred shortly after it died) but the video ends in a very satisfying way as it is. This isn’t a buyer beware type of warning, I’m very happy and proud of the match as it is, but I wanted to be transparent so nobody felt like they were getting taken for a ride (except during the POV slams). It’s similar to my other “baby”, Custom Combat, it’s a great initial offering and now that I know the in’s and out’s of making it work, the next one will be that much better.

I guarantee this point of view is much more exciting than my current point of view. Which is staring between my computer screen and the ceiling, sick as a dog. So here’s to me feeling better and I hope you enjoy Point of View 1.

Jonny

A quickie…

Who doesn’t love a quickie? After that Patriots win, that’s all I’m going to have time for before I call it a night.

But before we get into all the Jonny stuff… If you email me (info@jonnyfirestorm.com) with proof of a donation of at least $100 to one of the following charaties

https://www.childhelp.org/

http://www.cedars-kids.org/

I will send you a link to a free match download. You get to do some good and get a free Jonny match, I don’t see the downside. So act now and let’s do some good together before the holiday season.

Now onto all things Firestorm

I’m going to be in the DC/VA area the weekend of January 9-11th. I could extend my trip if anybody wanted to do some private wrestling. I won’t be available on the 10th at all, or the 11th for the first half of the day. As of right now I plan on flying into DCA but I haven’t booked my flight yet so I’m open to switching airports if need be.

I’m going to write about what I’ve been up to in more detail later but I just wanted to get a quick update out for now. I have some exciting things I’m working on, or at least I think they are. I’m still wicked behind on emails, making an effort to catch up and go through them all. I’ve also discovered that a bunch of emails ended up in my spam folder. So some of you should be getting some very late, random responses from me.

The store has been updated with a brand new downloadable match. This match is the debut of a brand new web series called “The Challenger”. I issued an open challenge to anybody who had the balls to step into the ring with me, and Flash LaCash was the first person to step up to the plate. Flash is skilled pro hunk, with a pretty significant height and weight advantage over me. He’s the perfect opponent for me to kick off “The Challenger” series against. We go toe to toe in a 20 minute, sweaty, back and forth pro battle with multiple submissions and pin falls. The Challenger 1: Jonny Firestorm vs. Flash LaCash is available as a $25 download in the store.

Speaking of Flash LaCash, he’s in one of the latest BG East products, Demolition 18. Check it out and let me know who you think did a better job working over Jake Jenkins, Flash or me on the award winning (best squash match of the year),  Jobberpaloozer 12: The works?
